Black Orchard Haunted House 2021 Review (Sept. 11th)

Location: 704 Kentucky St, Shelbyville, KY 40065

Overall Score: 8/10

  • Cast/Actors: 8

  • We now know "What is in the Barn!" and boy oh boy is it CRAZY!!! Props go out to the Cast for putting on a Good show for our Group's first visit to Black Orchard Meats. Meeting the Family made us Haunt Veterans feel right at Home! The Family Members we met along our Journey really made it known that we were trespassing on their territory and unless we wanted to be part of the Family we best be getting on our way. Upon entry to the Black Orchard Meats property we were greeted by a Gentleman known simply as the Man of Milk (Cody Rogers). This very odd, but yet friendly character zoned in on one of group members trying to recruit new members to join their Family as we made our trek just outside the Barn. As we rounded the corner we were greeted by the Famous Stich Black (Dakoda Bland), who we have heard tell about many times before our visit. Stich did a great job at giving us the back story of Black Orchard Meats and Welcomed us with open arms to meeting his Family and allowing us to Tour his facility. Each Character we encountered during our Journey fit very well within their Environment! One Character that stood out to us and gave our entire group a great startle was Junky Joe (Ronald Sammons) Kudos Sir! The Cast did a great job at giving us some startles here and there for sure. After making it out of Black Orchard Meats alive and in one piece, we were greeted by Cletus (Philip Davis), who wasn't too happy we had made it out alive. Cletus was so ready chop us to bits and feed us to the Birds, but we made it out thankfully!

  • Customer Service: 8

  • The Staff at Black Orchard were friendly and made us feel right at home. The Team Members we did encounter were happy to see us, and Thanked us for our Visit. Staff Members were around to help get us into the queue line, and were very Friendly as well.

  • Scare Rating: 7.5

  • Every Actor we encountered during our journey did a great job at giving us a startle as we entered their rooms. Kudos goes out to the Entire Cast for keeping us on our toes as we entered each room of the Haunt. One scare tactic that we encountered a lot were the sudden scares out of no where, which totally paid off!

  • Atmosphere: 9

  • The Haunt has AMAZING atmospheric detail for sure!!! Kudos to the Building/Design Crew for an amazing job all throughout the Haunt! We were totally immersed into the Haunts environment and each room flowed well together. Not to give away too much details, but you will be blown away at the amazing amount of detail the Haunt has to offer. I can't wait to see the Haunt continue to grow each Season!

  • Special Effects: 8

  • As you make your Journey through Black Orchard Meats you will encounter many different types of special effects, from scents, to lighting effects, to total darkness, and so much more. Parts of our Journey were very disorienting, which really had our Fear levels all over the place, as we had no clue what to expect next! Some areas could use a little more/little less special effects, but overall we were very pleased.

  • Value: 8.5

  • The cost of admission to Black Orchard is comparable to the other haunts in the region. There are many different types of Admission Tickets that can be purchased, from General Admission, Fast Pass, and Front of the Line tickets, all which are all reasonably priced.

  • New Scenes: N/A (This was our first visit to Black Orchard Haunted House)

  • Time Inside Haunt: 7.5

  • The time spent in the Barn was surprisingly lengthy. The design/build crew utilized every nook and cranny; creating many twists and turns to give the illusion of a much larger area.
